All 8 Cores of the AMD FX-8350 Vishera CPU Overclocked to 8.176 GHz Somehow
Even objectively speaking, this was an outright amazing feat
Records don't usually get so thoroughly shattered, even when they do get overcome, but Korean overclocker NAMEGT definitely didn't care about this. Or perhaps he or she used that as a motivation.
The AMD FX-8350 central processor, based on the Piledriver architecture and equipped with eight processing cores, has been overclocked again.
We could say that a new record has been set, but that would be a serious understatement.
Not only did NAMEGT keep all eight cores operational, but he/she populated both DRAM channels with Samsung DDR3 memory. The motherboard used was ASUS ROG Crosshair V Formula-Z.
That said, the voltage was set at 1.932V and the base clock of the CPU cores was set at 281.94 MHz and the multiplier at 29X. As a result, the frequency climbed to 8176.47 MHz.
NAMEGT chose the best chip from two 12-chip trays, implying that it is highly unlikely for this feat to be repeated with any Vishera unit. Although all chips meet certain quality standards, their endurance in tough loads is partially based on luck.
The CPU-Z validation of the overclocking session can be found here, while the HWBot certification has been passed as well, here. Needless to say, a lot of liquid nitrogen was used to keep the CPU from melting. We can almost imagine the test room getting thick with the vapors, like a fog.Now all that is left is for someone to take the A10-5800K Trinity APU and do something of this sort. Like this Vishera, the chip overcame the 7 GHz barrier by quite a bit but did not have all cores operational (2 out of 4 cores).
