Temple Run 2 - Guide to Maximize Your Winnings

Learn how to master this epic endless runner game with these practical and effective tips and tricks
By OMG.ROCKS
Temple Run may not be the first endless runner game in history, but Imangi Studios managed to “repopularized” the genre to the mobile platform. The first Temple Run game was undeniably a phenomenon, and Temple Run 2 is also a massive hit.
Unlike its iconic predecessor, Temple Run 2 offers more polished gameplay and adds more depth. It also provides players bigger options for the number of playable characters and maps to explore. Despite the drastic changes, Temple Run 2 remains faithful to its classic gameplay while successfully incorporating additional unique challenges and obstacles that players will encounter along the way.

The mechanics for Temple Run 2 are generally simple and manageable. Here, your character will run automatically on an endless path filled with obstacles and traps, and your goal is to survive at all costs. The controls, however, are minimal. You can slide under or jump over obstacles, switch directions by swiping the screen left or right or tilting the device.

The challenge in this game is that you only have “one shot” in each run. There will be no health bar or life points to consume. A single mistake will simply end the game unless you take advantage of your available resources, including the gems that serve as the game’s premium currency.

Listed below are tips and tricks to help you maximize your chances of surviving the run, as well as practical and effective ways to increase your resources.

How To Maximize Your Survival in Temple Run 2

Mastery

Temple Run 2 is a very unpredictable game. This is not a formulaic Mario-esque game that you can easily master by remembering the same sequence.

Keep in mind that the map and the obstacles will change dynamically for each run. Players are highly encouraged to exert the best of their eye and hand coordination to evade the obstacles and maximize their survival chances. This unpredictable gameplay provides Temple Run 2 an incredible replay value. Take note that mastery is the key to survive this endless-running adventure.

Each map comes with its own set of obstacles, and you must learn how to overcome them all. Most of the obstacles require perfect timing to surpass them. You should know when is the right time to jump, slide, or tilt your device. Unlike most mobile games today, Temple Run 2 doesn’t have an “Energy System” and therefore allows you to replay the game infinite times without losing any resources (allowing you to master everything).

Arm Yourself with the Right Skill

Much like its predecessor, Temple Run 2 features “power-ups” that can either help you overcome obstacles easily or collect more resources along the way. Currently, there are six main power-ups in this game. These include the following:

  • Boost – This Will boost your speed and provides temporary invulnerability.

  • Shield – Protects you from obstacles (one shield = one obstacle).

  • Coin Bonus – This allows you to earn additional coins after each run.

  • Coin Magnet – Engages Coin Magnet ability allowing you to collect every coin along the way automatically.

  • Score Bonus – This allows you to earn additional score points after each run.

Using gems, you can enhance their effectiveness and duration. Depending on your goal, you should pick the right power-ups or skills for your character.

Boost is definitely the most practical choice if you want to complete a challenge that requires you to reach a certain distance. Not only it provides an instant boost, but it also allows you to easily surpass challenging areas like Mine Railways (Sky Summit), Jungle Tunnels (Lost Jungle), Ice Cave (Frozen Shadows), The Hall of Kings (Blazing Sands), and even those back-to-back obstacles.
On the other hand, Coin Magnet is more ideal when dealing with challenges or quests that require players to collect a certain amount of coins.

Upgrade Abilities to Maximum Level

Aside from power-ups, the game also features upgradeable “Abilities.” Unlike the skills, abilities come with permanent effects. Each ability has five upgrade levels, but the value, however, will increase exponentially. Listed below are the abilities you can upgrade in Temple Run 2.

  • Coin Magnet – Increase coin magnet duration.

  • Boost Distance – Increase boost distance by a certain percentage.

  • Pickup Spawn – Make power-ups appear more frequently.

  • Power Meter – This allows the power meter to fill faster.

  • Save Me – Reduce the number of gems needed to use Save Me

  • Head Start – This allows you to purchase a head start at a lesser price

  • Score Multiplier – Increases score multiplier by a certain percentage.

Tips: You can take advantage of these abilities and match them perfectly with the current skill you have. For example, if you upgrade the Coin Magnet to its maximum level and pair it with the Boost skill, you can use the skill as soon as you picked up a Magnet powerup on the map. This allows you to collect more coins while running at a great speed (plus temporary invulnerability). Of course, players can embrace their full potential by upgrading all their abilities to their maximum level.

Take Advantage of the Head Start

There are two types of "Head start" in this game, and they are being offered at the start of every run. However, the tricky part is that you only have few seconds to decide if you want to use them or not. The common "Head Start" will initially cost 2500 coins, and it will boost you ahead for 1000km. If you have bigger money, you can use the "Mega Head Start" that can boost you ahead for 2500km, and it will initially cost you 10,000 coins. You can reduce the values at a lower rate by upgrading the Head Start ability.

Why use a head start? There are different “coin values” in Temple Run 2 that are identified by their colors. The Yellow Coins are the regular ones with single coin value, the Red Coins are double the worth, and the Blue coins are worth triple coins. Apparently, red and blue coins will only appear upon reaching a certain distance. With Head Start, you can easily unlock them.

Tips: You can also change Coin Skins for free. Each skin comes with the same 3-color scheme.

Make Sure to Collect Power-Ups

Aside from your skill that can be activated when you have earned enough power points, you can also collect power-ups along the way. They are randomly scattered on the map, and you can also drastically improve their frequency by upgrading the Pickup Spawn ability. Collecting them, however, is either a hit or a miss. Since they often appear in random and unexpected locations, collecting them can be a challenge, especially if your running speed is starting to increase (the longer you play the game, the faster your running speed will become). Make sure to observe keenly, so you don’t miss any power-ups along your way.

Gather Enough Resources

There are two currencies in this game; the coins and the gems. Both are equally valuable, and you can use them in many ways. The coins, for instance, are mainly used to upgrade your permanent abilities. However, once you have upgraded them all, their values are somehow lessened, but you can still use them to buy new characters, outfits or even unlock new maps.

Gems, on the other hand, serve as Temple Run’s premium currency. It allows you to enhance the duration and effectiveness of the power-ups, unlock premium items, and, best of all, saves you from dying.
Unlike its predecessor, Temple Run 2 no longer features the Resurrection Wing. Instead, they replaced it with Gems, enabling players to resurrect their characters multiple times as long as they have enough gems to spend. The number of gems needed to resurrect your character will exponentially increase, too, so make sure you have gathered enough resources.

Listed below are the effective ways to increase your resources in Temple Run 2 without spending real money in the game.

How to Effectively Increase Your Resources in Temple Run 2

Complete Daily and Weekly Challenges

There is an overwhelming number of ways to increase your resources in Temple Run 2. Aside from obtaining them from every run, you can also collect them by completing your Daily and Weekly challenges. These challenges will vary from time to time. Some will ask you to collect a certain amount of coins in one run, while others might ask you to reach a certain distance. Completing them will reward you with coins or gems.

Participate in Global Challenge

Unlike Daily and Weekly Challenges, Global Challenges are more like special events. They only appear once or twice a month, and players are only given limited time to complete them. This campaign requires longer engagement if you really want to grab the top prize. Interestingly, the prizes for Global Challenges are way more generous than the standard campaigns. Definitely, this is something to take advantage of.

Collect Keys to Unlock Quest Chest

Aside from the Daily Challenges, Temple Run 2 also offers Daily Quest. Here, you will be asked to collect 3 keys daily to unlock the quest chest and receive rewards in return. These quests, much like the challenges, will vary in terms of the goals you need to meet. They will also ask you to explore different maps or use a certain character.

Explore Different Maps and Collect Artifacts

Speaking of maps, you might also encounter treasure chests along the way. These treasure chests often contain artifacts that you can collect. Each map comes with its own set of artifacts, and each item comes with different values. Depending on the rarity, you can exchange these artifacts for a great number of gems or coins. If you have collected them all, you will be able to unlock special headgears for your character.

Complete Objectives

Objectives are also different from Quests and Challenges. It comes with a ranking system. The more you complete the tasks, the more points you earn to reach a new level. The objectives, however, require long-term engagements and are far more demanding than the aforementioned campaigns. The prizes, on the other hand, are also far more generous than the standard challenges.

Watch Reward Videos and Open Daily Chest Reward

Probably the easiest and the quickest way to get additional gems is to watch reward videos. Here, you will be asked to watch a 15 to a 30-second-long advertisement and earn a gem in return. You can use this feature every four hours, allowing you to earn a maximum of 6 gems a day (not much, but it can still help you go a long way).

The Playable Characters, on the other hand, are sort of bonuses in Temple Run 2. They do not affect your progress, and they all share the same skills and abilities. All the characters you managed to unlock will have the permanent effects applied every time your upgrade the abilities. Generally, their purpose is to improve the visual experience.

While endless running games are now all over the play stores, Temple Run 2 by Imangi Studios remains top of the competition. It is constantly updated, and they always treat gamers with new maps and limited-time events to explore. Good luck and have fun!
