5.0 out of 5 stars disclosure...I am a junky

" I am woosailor and I am a Grusin junky" and also a big fan of the Fender Rhodes piano as well as the other electronic instruments Grusin mixes with conventional instruments of the orchestra
.
Was first exposed to Grusin's work while living near Balboa Park in downtown San Diego, next to a religious broadcasting studio !....Maybe it was just a magical time in my life living in a gorgeous city listening to this cine-magician.

Someone in the building bought Mountain Dance, I liked it, and then proceeded to play it until the grooves were nearly gone. Have played this CD thousands of times. ( Headphones make the experience so much better)
Agree with Rebecca who said that this is relaxing music and all of her comments.....

My favorite is The Champ which is haunting but there is only one cut on this CD that I routinely skip and I think that it is the same one Rebecca mentions.....comes from On Golden Pond. 13 out of 14 is still a winner in my book.

On Golden Pond..... it "nails" the sense of the movie
Heaven Can Wait.....humorously light and fun
An Actor's Life.....from Tootsie....great use of instrumentation
It Might Be You.....another from Tootsie...eerily beautiful....with great lyrics
The Heart is a Lonely Hunter.....this movie didn't get the exposure that it deserves but Grusin sets the tone
Mountain Dance....listen to this with decent headphones and catch the effects that Grusin injects into this song
Letting Go........from The Champ.....simple, beautiful, and beautiful....again potentiates the movie..
The Champ......from The Champ...Grusin uses an English horn and French horns to set a tone here....my favorite
Condor.......from Day of the Condor.....sets the tone for a high energy film
Goodbye for Kathy.....not sure where this is from but it is beautiful as well....is that Lee Ritenour amd a great tenor sax player ( maybe Tom Scott)
Epilogue.......beautiful in its simplicity

May I sit down now that I have exposed my soul?
I have admitted my addiction to this brilliant film scoring genius....

Buy this CD....I will buy it back from you if not satisfied....your friends will recognize the songs ( if they are over 30) but not the composer

Got a chance to see Dave in concert and I was awed all over again. He is unassuming but brilliant.
What you don't realize that his timing is so impeccable that his delayed completion of a chord is striking. Just like a guitar chord that is delayed so as to revel in its beauty, Grusin seems to enhance the chord....( my theory and technique is weak but hopefully you get what I am saying...)

I am a big fan of Gil Evans, Bill Evans, Miles, Chet Baker, Lee Ritenour, Terry Gibbs...(listen to his Make Me Rainbows on Maureen McGovern's massive CD "The Music Never Ends")......Jack Sheldon, and other jazz greats.
Only wish they would allow Grusin into their fraternity. He deserves it.

You deserve to give this gorgeous CD a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars SOME OF HIS BEST!
Reviewed in the United States on 18 September 2012

This album introduced me to some of Grusin's film scoring that I was not aware he had done. I first heard this recording via a fairly recent purchase of a re-cycled LP edition. Played in a quality audio system, I found the CD to be the sonic equal of the LP . . . or vice versa. (For example - the third tract, Heaven Can Wait, is an excellent showcase for an audio system's ability to reproduce instrumental detail.) Another point, compared to the LP, the CD presents four additional tracts that add to the listener's enjoyment. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good assortment of movie themes
Reviewed in the United States on 13 March 2014

Dave Grusin has a deftness in his piano style that is incomparable, particularly on the track: It Might Be You. It's nice to hear a Heaven Can Wait "suite" which is a compilation of themes from the movie, seamlessly woven together, providing a poignant, whimsical, romantic piece. On Golden Pond provides two nicely executed themes. Many other tracks I wasn't too fond of. The Goonies chase music should've been eliminated from this album because I found it to be jarring in the midst of all the beautiful romantic songs from other films.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Genius of Dave Grusin

I have always loved the music from the movie, "Heaven Can Wait." This was the only way that I found to listen to the main track that recurs during the movie. Also, "On Golden Pond", "Three Days of the Condor" (2 tracks), and several other classic movies are included. This disc sounds great, and it is pure escapism. Trust me, this is a wonderful addition to anyone that enjoys beautiful movie music. Enjoy!
