Schultz, James and Frederick, US Army
Born in Detroit, Michigan, on 16 July 1932, James J. Schultz (left) wears the patch for the 6th Tank Battalion of the 24th Infantry Division. Since he has no ribbons, he was probably in Basic Training. Upon Jim's assignment to his next unit he would have changed shoulder patches to the new unit. He was inducted to the U.S. Army on 15 October 1952 in Detroit. He served overseas for one year and three months and was discharged on 16 September 1954 at Fort Sheridan, Illinois, with the rank of Private First Class. He was awarded the Korean Service Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. (Service No. 55314083) He died in Detroit on 17 May 1961 and was buried at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. He was the son of Frank Schultz and Helen Kaptur. Frederick P. Schultz (right) was born in Detroit, Michigan on 22 June 1929, the son of Frank Schultz and Helen Kaptur. He wears Corporal stripes and ribbons, indicating that he had been in the army longer. He is wearing the 8th Army Communication Zone patch. He was probably at the Taegu Military Post (K COM Z). He was inducted into the U.S. Army on 24 May 1951 in Detroit and was discharged on 12 May 1957 in Detroit with the rank of Corporal. He served in Fort Custer, Michigan; Detroit, Michigan; Camp Gordon, Georgia; Seoul, Korea; Japan; and San Francisco, California. He was awarded the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal, and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation.
